With just two weeks left until Christmas, Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his family were getting in the holiday spirit as they braved freezing cold temperatures to share in some festive fun on Parliament Hill. The dad of two celebrated his first season since taking office in January by leading the carol singing and lighting up Ottawa's Christmas tree.
While real snow might not have been falling just yet, the Prime Minister conjured up a touch of Christmas magic, turning the switch and illuminating countless giant snowflakes falling over the Centre Block.
Taking a break from parliamentary duty, his kids, Ben, 10, Rachel, 7, and his wife Lauren were by his side throughout the ceremonies. Wrapped up in a cosy fuchsia-pink jacket and matching hat, Rachel was only too happy to help dad with his festive mission.
While the Harper family joined together to celebrate, the Prime Minister urged the well-wishers to remember those who were spending Christmas abroad, on duty with the armed forces.
