Many of Britain's top footballers have earned a reputation for their sartorial choices when they're out on the town. The star players from Liverpool FC opted for a rather more light-hearted style statement when they stepped out for their club's Christmas party this week, however.
The hunky athletes swapped their red football strip for fancy dress when they got into the festive spirit on Wednesday night. Members of the opposition would have their work cut out to get past Spider-Man, so defender Jamie Carragher didn't have to think twice about his choice of outfit. And striker Dirk Kuyt was apparently feeling rather heroic, too, as he went dressed as Superman.
Midfield ace Steven Gerrard meanwhile decided to a become a punk rocker for the evening, while Peter Crouch spread his wings by dressing up as a parrot. Jermaine Pennant, who had been transformed into Star Wars character Chewbacca, might have been well advised to steer clear of goalie Jerzy Dudeck, though, who was in malevolent form as Darth Vader.
Liverpool's famous players are looking forward to an extra special Christmas present this year, as Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is about to take over the club, is expected to build them a new stadium. Chief Executive Rick Parry says investment from the Middle Eastern statesman will make them one of the world's greatest teams.
