As the proceedings for her divorce from Paul McCartney get underway Heather Mills is facing more stress after police warned of threats made to her safety. The mum-of-one has apparently been issued with a panic alarm, which allows her to contact Sussex police headquarters directly, following developments involving gang land figures.
Heather attempted to put the worrying information behind her as she headed out for a bike ride on the Brighton seafront near her home in Hove - with her personal trainer Ben Amigoni by her side. The 38-year-old fitness instructor has been a source of increasing support to his anti-land mines campaigner boss of late, taking on the role of bodyguard in addition to his exercise regime duties after it was revealed Heather does not have the resources to pay for private security.
"She is frightened," says her spokesman, "but she's more worried about Bea than anything else. She has been told who these characters are and the worrying thing is that they have a violent past." It is thought the threats came after claims made by Heather about her estranged husband Sir Paul McCartney's behaviour during their four-year marriage.
"On Thursday December 14, information was received from police in the Merseysde area which indicated a non specific threat towards Heather Mills McCartney," said a Sussex Police spokesperson. "Police can confirm she was spoken to by officers and she was fully informed of the information, including details of the names of individuals involved."
While detectives seem satisfied that Heather is at no "imminent risk" local officers have been briefed, and she has been ensured an immediate response if necessary.
