Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has revealed that he won't be partying too hard this festive season, as doctors have ordered him to steer clear of the booze for two years. The 37-year-old celeb, who nearly lost his life when he crashed a jet-powered car at 288mph, proved he has lost none of his good humour, though, when he spoke to Jonathan Ross on Thursday.
Appearing on TV for the first time since the accident happened in September, the motoring guru was on light-hearted form. "I can't drink for two years," he said. "I'm sending my wife Mindy to try and negotiate that down." Hamster, as he's known to his friends, also revealed he can't remember anything of the two weeks after the horrific smash. "I was driving, and then it was two weeks later and I was in Leeds Hospital," he explained.
The small screen favourite's professional dedication was clearly not affected by the incident, however. "Apparently I was awake on the way to the helicopter and I got a bit fighty," said the father-of-two. "I wanted to do a piece to camera, but my eyes were pointing in different directions!"
When Richard first arrived in hospital doctors were unsure about whether he would survive. But the fiesty presenter amazed medical professionals with his speedy recovery and was sent home just a few weeks later.
