Thousands of our readers logged on to vote for their favourite stars in our annual end of year poll. And as we look back at the celebs who made the biggest impression over the last 12 months, it becomes clear that 2006 was packed full of unforgettable A-list events.
A huge media frenzy surrounded Tom Cruise's wedding to Katie Holmes, but it would appear HELLO! readers were more interested in his ex's nuptials, with Nicole Kidman's marriage to country singer Keith Urban being voted celebrity wedding of the year. And although Sir Paul McCartney's divorce from Heather Mills dominated the headlines, it was the break-up of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe that took us unawares, as their split was named most surprising break-up.
Victoria Beckham maintains her reputation as Britain's most stylish woman, after winning the trendsetter of the year category, while the much-loved Kylie Minogue took victory in the comeback of the year section, thanks to her triumphant return to the stage after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
Among the other stars who made an indelible mark in 2006 were Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien, who was named most glamorous soap star, and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, who won best comedian. Angelina Jolie's baby with Brad Pitt, Shiloh Nouvel, was recognised for having the coolest baby name, while Leonardo DiCaprio and Israeli model Bar Rafaelli were the hottest new pairing.
The Devil Wears Prada actress Emily Blunt was likewise basking in glory, after she took the honours for best British screen newcomer. And Denmark's Princess Mary managed to win a place in the winners list, too, with her solo visit to Prague being selected as the highest profile royal trip of the year.
