Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz have ended speculation over the state of their relationship after confirming they are no longer an item. The pair, who dated for nearly four years, spent Christmas apart and attended a series of recent red carpet events separately.
"It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we've spent together, we feel compelled to do so now," they said in a joint statement released on Friday.
"We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another."
Cameron, 34, and her boyfriend - nine years her junior - met in April 2003 at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They were soon stepping out together, with the actress joining Justin on the road in July as he toured with Christina Aguilera.
The Holiday beauty, who co-stars with Justin in the upcoming animated flick Shrek The Third, has repeatedly emphasised she is not yet ready to settle down. "I'm a commitment-phobe. Don't want to do it," she has said of heading up the aisle.
