Embattled TV personality Jade Goody is holding out an olive branch over her controversial behaviour on UK reality show Celebrity Big Brother. The 25-year-old, who was evicted from the programme's house after allegedly making racist jibes at actress Shilpa Shetty, is planning to visit the Indian star's home country in a bid to prove she is not prejudiced.
Comments made by the mum-of-two on the hit reality show have provoked a media storm in recent days. Living TV, the production company for whom the former dental nurse has made three series in the last two years, has meanwhile decided to stop working with her. Jade's housemate Danielle Lloyd, who has also been accused of bigotry, has suffered a similar fate after losing advertising contracts with Roca-Wear and Bennett's Insurance.
Jade received another unpleasant surprise when she returned to her home in Essex on Tuesday. The headline-friendly star discovered the windows of her £300,000 residence had been smashed, apparently by angry youths. She was visibly upset as she left the house, but being reunited with her two sons - Bobby, three, and Freddie, two - soon put a smile back on her face.
The Londoner is now hoping her trip to the subcontinent will help draw a line under her recent troubles. And if affirmations made by the Indian High Commission prove correct, her desires may well come to fruition. At the height of the controversy the Commission ran a full-page ad in The Independent inviting her to visit the country and experience its "healing nature".
