Slaying dragons isn't normally part of the job description for a top footballer. But then not every soccer star has the dashing good looks and heroic status of David Beckham.
In a striking transformation, the handsome 31-year-old midfielder has swapped his Real Madrid strip for more fairytale garb to play the dashing Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty in a commercial for Disney.
David was photographed by top fashion snapper Annie Leibovitz in December at a lake near Madrid as part of a new series of portraits to promote the company's themeparks. And, according to a Disney spokesperson, the soccer ace thoroughly enjoyed his sword and charger outing. He also admitted to having fun playing make-believe. "I love going to Disney, I'm like a big kid," David revealed.
"There were many Disney characters I liked as a kid. Now my sons love the Disney characters and it's a big part of their lives, a big part of many children's lives around the world. So to be part of that is an honour and very exciting," the dad-of-three added. The ad shot is his first endorsement since announcing his move to Los Angeles, where he joins the LA Galaxy team later this year.
David, who was described by photographer Annie Leibovitz as a "very determined actor", is in good company for his Disney collaboration. Dreamgirls star Beyonce Knowles and blonde bombshell Scarlett Johansson also appear in the photographic campaign as much-loved Disney characters.
Scarlett, 22, was transformed into Cinderella, wearing a fabulous Nicoletta Santoro gown and a 62-carat Harry Winston tiara worth £165,000, while 25-year-old Beyonce took a spin in a whirling teacup as Alice in Wonderland. The three images will appear in US magazines in March.
