As the excitement mounts ahead of this weekend's Academy Awards ceremony, Canadian actor Adam Beach remains refreshingly grounded about his Hollywood success.
The actor’s latest film, Flags Of Our Fathers, is up for two Oscars - yet the 34-year-old star is more concerned with being a good role model for his children. "I don't drink, I don't take drugs, I don't smoke cigarettes," said the proud Ashern, Manitoba-born thesp, who hopes his children will follow his clean-living ways.
The father of two, who grew up on an Indian reserve with his two brothers, is set to host the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards in Edmonton in March, and says that he hopes his success will inspire other youngsters with a similar background.
Adam's guest spot on hit TV show Law And Order: Special Victims Unit has turned into a regular role. Starting in September, he will join Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni, playing a Brooklyn detective in the crime drama as it enters its ninth season.
"For them to ask me on this show as a season regular for three years - I mean, wow, that's a big compliment," he recently said. "This is going to catapult me to a different level, and it really sends a message to native kids that one of us made it, and they can make it too."
