Fresh from partying with his Hollywood pals at the Vanity Fair post-Oscar bash, seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong was back at work this week, promoting a cause close to his heart. The hunky cyclist was guest of honour at a Toronto fundraiser in aid of cancer research.
Lance, who had been described by event organisers as a "hero of hope and a symbol of strength", was given a standing ovation by the 600 attendees, after a glowing introduction by former Canada consul general Pamela Wallin.
Not only does he devote time to telling his inspirational story at such events, but true to his action-man status he continues to raise awareness and money, too, by competing in gruelling marathons.
The philanthropic dad-of-three, who split from Sheryl Crow a year ago, has said he plans to run in the New York marathon again this year - something he did for the first time last November. Since his retirement from cycling in 2005, the cyclist has been keeping up his fitness with actor pals Matthew McConaughey and Jake Gyllenhaal and spending time with his son and two twin daughters.
And we could be hearing more about the Tour de France ace in the future as story of his life is reported to be heading for the silver screen.
