She might be one of the world's top supermodels, but Kate Moss has drawn the line at modelling in the ad campaign for her own range of clothes for high-street label Topshop - instead choosing rising Canadian star Irina Lazareanu for the task. The Brit style icon introduced Irina to modelling when she was a drummer for her boyfriend Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles and has now taken her under her wing.
"Kate thinks she's got a very unique, rock-chick look," said a source close to the model-turned-designer, whose KM Topshop line hits UK stores on May 1 and New York's upscale department store Barneys on May 8. "She really felt that Irina embodies the feel of her Topshop range - her porcelain skin, her big eyes under her thick Sixties fringe - it was a look Kate was impressed with."
Irina has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the fashion world thanks to Kate, who hand-picked her to feature in the December 2005 issue of Vogue which she was guest-editing. Since then the 24-year-old brunette has appeared in campaigns for some of the biggest names in the industry including Balenciaga, Chanel, Mulberry and Hugo Boss and opened many of the top Autumn/Winter 2007 catwalk shows. She hasn't totally abandoned her music career, however, and is currently working on a folk album produced by Yoko Ono's son Sean Lennon.
