When there are worthy causes that need supporting, some of Canada's best-known sporting, music and film talents are only too willing to lend a hand. Known as 'The Great One', Ontario-born hockey giant Wayne Gretzky may have hung up his skates in April 1999, but the dad of five has found a new passion close to his heart - children's charities.

The former NHL star, who has his own charity - the Wayne Gretzky Foundation - stepped out to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Gala in Beverly Hills on Thursday night, where he was joined by fellow Canadian chum, music producer David Foster, and silver screen luminaries Annette Bening and Warren Beatty.

Just as willing to help out a good cause of a different sort - supporting the arts - was Wild Hogs actress Jill Hennessy. She was accompanied by her hunky actor husband Paolo Mastropietro at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music benefit ball aboard the Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 on Thursday night.
