Though Black Eyed Peas star Fergie may have gone solo, she still knows how to get the party started on her own as she proved at this year's Much Music Video Awards. She kicked off the annual event in downtown Toronto with a performance of hit Fergilicious for which she later picked up the best international video gong. "I'm the luckiest girl in the world right now," said the singer - who is currently dating actor Josh Duhamel - of her career and love life.
Equally dazzling was actress-turned-songstress Hilary Duff who won the gong for best international artist for her video With Love, which bears the same title as her 2006 fragrance. She thrilled fans by announcing she will be starting her tour in Canada since her music is so well received here.
British soul diva Joss Stone, meanwhile, was busy clearing up rumours of a love interest with Prince William. "I only spoke to him once," she said of the second in line to the throne. "About what I will sing for the Diana (tribute concert)…I want it to be something special."
It was a winning night for rockers Billy Talent who scooped the best rock video for Fallen Leaves, and also for Avril Lavigne whose hit Girlfriend was named best international video by a Canadian. It was clearly an emotional moment for the singer who welled up as she accepted the award in front of an audience including Canadian Idol host Ben Mulroney and TV personality Mary Jo Eustace.
"All the fans just voted for me and that really means a lot, so thank you," she said. Her husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, was on hand to congratulate her and proudly introduced her as "Mrs Whibley" as she took to the stage to perform her track.
