'Corrie' stars celebrate as 'Kirk' finally weds his long-time love

Anyone in the Rovers Return this weekend would have found it strangely empty of punters as the Coronation Street cast turned out en masse for the wedding of their colleague Andy Whyment. The 27-year-old actor - who plays Corrie's perennial loser Kirk - tied the knot with his childhood sweetheart, 23-year-old nurse Nicola Willis, at a packed service in Manchester.

Unlike his permanently unhappy Wetherby alter ego, Andy was all smiles as he arrived at the private ceremony. His pretty bride kept him waiting for 15 minutes before making her appearance in a silver Rolls Royce.

The Street's glamourpusses had pulled out all the stops for the summer nuptials. Jennifer McAlpine - factory worker Fiz, who rejected Andy's proposal in a recent storyline - had her exuberant curls tamed into a glossy 'do and was completely unrecognisable from her TV character.

Tina O'Brien, meanwhile, was slinkily turned out in a little black dress, as she attended with her on- and off-screen beau Ryan Thomas. Also on hand to witness their friends' exchange of vows was Samia Smith, stunning in a chiffon halter-neck affair and escorted by her husband of two years, Matt.
