After splitting from her long-time love Ryan Reynolds earlier this year, Ottawa-born chanteuse Alanis Morissette became the envy of single women everywhere as she strolled on the beach in Malibu with the man recently named Hollywood's 'Hottest Bachelor'.

The singer showed off her trim figure in a black bikini as she joined Matthew McConaughey at a sun and surf party on the beach. However, as Matthew's romance with his stunning new 22-year-old girlfriend, Brazilian model Camilla Alves, is seemingly going from strength to strength, it looks like it was just two friends enjoying some down time together.

Since ending her four-year relationship with Ryan in February Alanis has been taking time out away from the spotlight, living a low-key lifestyle in La and Ottawa - where the hockey fan recently sang the US and Canadian national anthems during the Stanley Cup final.

She recently admitted ending her romance with Ryan was difficult, quoting Anais Nin in her personal website diary: "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." She adds: "This quote about covers what the last three months have been for me."

But fans of the best-selling singer need not worry that the break-up means Alanis is thinking of slowing down her music career. The songstress has hinted she has plenty more material up her sleeve, telling a crowd gathered at an LA bar in April that she's been "sequestered in London and LA over the last few months writing a bevy of new songs".
