Hollywood actress Jodie Foster was at the forefront of a bevy of international talents who'd begun arriving in Toronto as the city's film festival kicked off on Thursday.
In town for the world premiere of her new thriller The Brave One, the two-time Oscar-winner, elegant in a classic black gown and flanked by her Academy Award-nominee co-star Terrence Howard, paused on the red carpet to greet fans outside the Ryerson Theatre venue and sign autographs.
Across town British beauty Rosamund Pike, who'd chosen a cream floral gown for the occasion, made her entrance to the screening of new drama Fugitive Pieces, about a child who escapes to the US from Poland during WWII, on the arm of her film director fiancé Joe Wright.
Among those yet to arrive in Toronto for the festival, which this year will feature 350 films from 55 countries around the world, are hunky Hollywood trio George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. While helping bring a touch of Tinseltown glamour to the city during the ten-day cine fest will be the likes of Cate Blanchett, Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep, all of whom are promoting their new flicks.
The festival, which is now in its 32nd year, has grown in stature in recent years and now gives Venice and Cannes a run for their money when it comes to providing a showcase for potentially Academy Award-winning movies.
