Canadian talent takes centre stage at Toronto Film Festival

Although a clutch of Tinseltown's finest have been setting flash bulbs popping at the Toronto film festival this week, two home-grown talents have been garnering their fair share of attention. Oscar-winner Ryan Gosling and two time Academy Award-winning director Paul Haggis were the centre of attention as they stepped out to the premieres of their respective flicks on Monday night.

Ontario-born Ryan was in town to promote quirky comedy Lars And The Real Girl, a heart-warming tale about a delusional young man who strikes up a friendship with a life-like doll, while Paul, fresh arrived from the Venice fest, was presenting In The Valley Of Elah.

It seems that hunky Ryan, who was accompanied to the screening by co-stars Patricia Clarkson and British actress Emily Mortimer, got especially fond of his mannequin love interest - so much so that he ended up taking her home. And while he confirmed that he and his pretty girlfriend Rachel McAdams are still very much an item, he admits she wasn't thrilled by the newcomer. "She's not happy about it," he says wryly.
