She's defined and re-defined her image dozens of times in the course of her career, and this week Madonna was playing the chameleon again.
On the one hand she appeared scantily clad in bondage-style gear in photos to promote her new album Hard Candy, on the other she was snapped visiting a spiritual centre with her kids.
The uncompromising promo shot shows that, at 50, the Material Girl still has the ability - and the body - to titillate. Clad in a revealing ensemble teamed with thigh-high, lace-up boots, the newly divorced singer, whose marriage to Guy Ritchie ended in November, shows off plenty of her famously gym-toned body.
In her personal life Madonna seemed less interested in outward appearances, however, and more concerned with inner growth. A keen follower of the Kabbalah faith, she was spotted taking her three children, Lourdes, Rocco and David, to a Kabbalah service in Manhattan over the weekend.
