It's an event that's 12 months in the making. The culmination of hellomagazine.com's Most Attractive and Most Elegant polls draws interest from around the world and gets readers clicking in their thousands. Excitement this year was high as usual with the three categories – most attractive man, woman and most elegant woman - attracting well over half a million votes.
Music and style commentators alike agreed that 2008 was comeback queen Britney Spears' year to shine. And hellomagazine.com readers clearly agreed, with a resounding 43 per cent voting her Most Attractive Woman of last year. The 27-year-old, who clearly impressed with the trim new figure she's been showing off recently, beat off competition from Brad Pitt's beautiful other half Angelina Jolie, who picked up a quarter of the final vote.
The race for the Most Attractive Man title turned up two frontrunners as dishy Doctor Who David Tennant and rising star Robert Pattinson went neck and neck all the way. As the male pole closed over 395,000 votes had been cast, with the Twilight star emerging as the winner with 39 per cent - a lead of only one per cent.
UK talent clearly has the wow factor as far as you were concerned. With Hugh Laurie, Orlando Bloom and Daniel Craig in third, fourth and fifth place, the top five became an all-British affair.
For the second year in a row it was the queen of reinvention, Madonna, who claimed the Most Elegant Woman title. Her impeccable sense of style had 27 per cent of you convinced.
Giving the Material Girl a run for her money, however, was Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, who missed out on the top spot by only three percent. Other contenders included Denmark's popular Crown Princess Mary and Daniel Craig's glamorous US producer girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell, who came third and fourth.
