Keen helicopter pilot Harrison Ford has been honoured for his commitment to aviation. Accompanied by his partner Calista Flockhart, the 66-year-old actor was presented with a Legends Aviation Legacy Award for the hours he has dedicated to introducing young people to the joys of flying.
Harrison, who earned his pilot's wings in 1990 and owns several aircraft, has piloted over 280 youngsters into the skies and, through the Young Eagles volunteer programme of which he is chairman, taught many more.
"Those who are bound to the Earth by gravity - and are without an airplane - don’t really see the world the way a pilot does. There’s so much beauty in flight," the Indiana Jones star says.
Also donning the award's red, white and blue riband at the Beverly Hills ceremony was record-attempting balloonist Richard Branson.
Among those witnessing Harrison and Richard collect the honour were fellow pilot Morgan Freeman, and former astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
