Standing amid heart-shaped balloons, with a flurry of petals at her feet, Duffy chose to share February 14 with her fans. In a nod to Valentine's Day, the Nefyn-born sensation also wore a bright pink wig for the special gig at a London nightclub.

While the soul diva was serenading lovers in the capital, Kate Moss, who has been dating rocker Jamie Hince for over a year, was attending a friend's wedding. According to fellow guests, the 35-year-old model screamed for joy on catching the bouquet.

"It was lovely to see Kate being so girly," a source told the Daily Express. "It was (her) personal assistant's wedding. Kate's daughter Lila was a bridesmaid and as you can imagine, she looked absolutely gorgeous."

Valentine's weekend was also eventful for Princess Michael of Kent's son Lord Freddie Windsor. He proposed to his girlfriend of two years, actress Sophie Winkleman in the grounds of 17th-century mansion Frogmore House in Windsor.

And it wasn't just British celebrities who were in the mood for romance. Over in America, Dustin Hoffman was pictured smiling as he left a flower shop, laden with bunches of roses and tulips for his wife Lisa Gottsegen in the run-up to the day.

Meanwhile President Barack Obama also organised a thoughtful gesture for his first lady Michelle, whisking her off to their home town of Chicago where they joined friends for a meal in one of their favourite restaurants, Table 52.

Meanwhile Kate Moss, attending a friend's wedding, seemed delighted to catch the bride's bouquet. If her boyfriend Jamie Hince gets the hint, he'll have the perfect opportunity to propose next week when they are on safari in Africa
