Chris Martin put his disappointment at missing out on a Brit award behind him with a rousing star-studded concert on the same night.

The rocker and his Coldplay bandmates rushed from playing at the biggest event of the music calendar to a 15th birthday gig for the charity War Child.

He told fans, including wife Gwyneth Paltrow and Sienna Miller, "We've just got back from Japan, lost all the Brits, it's been a s**t day, but it's going to get better".

"This is going to be the best encore you've ever seen," he added, before being joined on the stage by Take That's Gary Barlow, U2 frontman Bono and trendy indie group The Killers.
