As Cheryl Cole, Denise Van Outen and the team of celebrities continued their gruelling fundraising trek up Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro, there was some good news to buoy their spirits. The group learned their fundraising total had reached a whopping £1 million pounds - just the sort of thing they needed to hear on what turned out to be a particularly hard day.
Things must have been especially tough for Girls Aloud band member Cheryl. The singer had been unwell in the night and received an anti-sickness jab. She was then left tearful after her footballer husband Ashley Cole called to break the news he'd been detained after a night out.
The 25-year-old pop star was apparently upset not only about the arrest, but the fact that Ashley had promised not to go out drinking with his teammates while she was away, reports the Daily Mirror.
Ashley has apologised to police after receiving a fine for being drunk and disorderly. He was held overnight after the incident, which took place as he left a nightclub on Wednesday after attending a Chelsea fundraiser.
Despite the upset Cheryl is more determined than ever to successfully complete the climb. "It won't stop her reaching the top – and she'll deal with everything else later," says an insider from the Africa trek.
