Geri Halliwell has called time on her engagement to shipping tycoon Fabrizio Politi less than three months after he popped the question.

Mum-of-one Geri and the 34-year-old Italian met in a Florence nightclub in December and, after a whirlwind romance, she accepted his Christmas proposal. The relationship faltered, though, when according to a source, the former Spice Girl "woke up one morning last week and decided she wasn’t the marrying type".

"She loved being in a relationship, but decided that all she needs is her daughter Bluebell to keep her happy," the source told The Sun newspaper. "Fabrizio is upset but totally respects Geri's wishes."

In the past the 36-year-old has spoken about her struggle to maintain a long-term relationship saying: "I can be fickle. One minute I think someone is the love of my life, the next I don't".

Before meeting Fabrizio Geri had a six-month relationship with American dancer Ivan 'Flipz' Velez and was also romantically linked to London nightclub owner Nick House.
