Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host Chris Tarrant has dismissed a late night incident in which he was arrested on suspicion of assault as nothing more than a lovers' tiff after a few bottles of wine.

"We had a row. It happens. It was about nothing in particular," says the 62-year TV presenter, who argued with his girlfriend Jane Bird in the drive of their gated apartment block in Surrey after they returned home from a Tina Turner concert in London.

"We were both a bit tipsy, we'd had some fine wine. We might have had a few bottles. Someone called the police, but I want to emphasise that absolutely nothing physical happened."

Following the argument, Chris - who has been seeing legal assistant Jane for two years - spent two hours in custody at the police station in Staines. His 46-year-old girlfriend then told police the disagreement had simply been a "big mistake" and didn't press charges.
