Bruce Forsyth waltzed off with a lifetime achievement award from the Royal Television Society – a prize previously won by David Attenborough – and quipped: "That's nice, but the standard's going down".
Among those sharing the 81-year-old veteran's night of glory was his Strictly co-host Tess Daly, who gave him a warm hug as he left the podium.
Once again showing her flair for maternity chic, Tess was radiant in a Grecian-style floral dress teamed with a golden arm bracelet and topped with a plaited updo.
The guest list also included new mum Tamzin Outhwaite - taking a night off from caring for her daughter Florence - Robson Green, and Patsy Palmer.
The EastEnders actress can look forward to a tipple with the rest of the cast in the Queen Vic pub as the series beat off competition from Coronation Street to be named best soap.
