News of the earthquake that shook central Italy on Monday - in particular the city of L'Aquila where her Italian grandparents hailed from - has prompted Madonna to give a "substantial" sum to help its victims.
The Material Girl reportedly donated £350,000.
Fernando Carparso - the mayor of Pacentro, a small mountain village where Madonna's grandparents were born – says he's deeply moved by the singer's contribution.
"Other than being a great singer, a great rock star and an intelligent woman, with this gesture she has become a great woman."
As, like Italy-born Carla Bruni-Sarkozy who's confirmed a donation to the city's hospital, Madonna reached out to help victims of the natural disaster she's received some TLC of her own from ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
According to reports the British director, who recently issued a statement supporting his former spouse following her recent failed adoption bid, has been consoling the 50-year-old singer through tearful phone conversations.
The mum-of-three – known to her pals as Em – apparently became upset during a call to the couple's three-year-old adopted son David while he was staying with his dad. Leading Guy, who parted ways with the star in January, to step in to offer support.
"Guy was incredibly sympathetic, calmed her down and told her to be happy with the family she had," the Sun reports.
