Her dowdily dressed EastEnders alter ego is as part of Albert Square landscape as the Queen Vic pub. But as June Brown celebrated her first best actress nomination at an elegant Bafta tea party, she was looking altogether more glamorous than her screen character.
Replacing Dot Branning's launderette overalls, unflattering hairstyle and headscarf, was the veteran performer's smart winter coat and pearls.
And the chic effect was accentuated by her sleek off-duty crop.
June had every reason to make a splash with her entrance at the party, held in a glitzy Knightsbridge hotel in London. After all it's more than 20 years since a soap performer was up for the coveted gong.
Also in the limelight was June's fellow best actress nominee Maxine Peake, recognised for her role as Joan Le Mesurier in the BBC bio-pic Hancock And Joan, about the final year in the life of troubled comedian Tony Hancock.
Other guests included Celebrity Masterchef 2008 winner and former Atomic Kitten Liz McLarnon.
