Now, of course, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is revelling in motherhood the second time around like any besotted parent. But it was a different story when her younger son Kitt was born on February 7 in dramatic circumstances nine weeks before his due date.
In her online blog the Murder On The Dancefloor singer spoke for the first time about having an emergency caesarean section after being diagnosed with the life-threatening pregnancy condition pre-eclampsia.
"I was supposed to travel to Moscow to play a weekend gig. My consultant was due to give me permission to fly, as I was over 28 weeks pregnant," wrote the 30-year-old performer, who is married to guitarist Richard Jones.
Concerned the baby was small for the number of weeks – Kitt was just 2lb 10oz when he was born – her consultant ordered her to cancel.
"I was also displaying some classic signs of pre-eclampsia; headaches, high blood pressure and swollen ankles.
"So I wasn't going anywhere and I was sent home to rest. Shortly after, Kitt must have decided he was ready to arrive into the world," she added.
After five weeks in a special baby care unit the new arrival was allowed to join his parents and big brother Sonny at home.
"We are all doing really well. We just love him being around and he is really enjoying finding out what it is to be part of our family," says his happy mum.
