Paul McCartney 's former wife Heather Mills continued her mission to turn the nation on to the benefits of a meat-free diet this week by taking on the role of inspirational guest speaker at a major vegetarian roadshow.

The 41-year-old animal rights campaigner is holding a 'Get healthy with Heather' session, during which she'll be giving a vegan cookery demonstration, at the event in the Royal Horticultural Halls of Westminster this weekend. She'll be there on behalf of Viva – Vegetarians international Voice For Animals – the organisation of which she is patron.

"She loves the challenge of turning a carnivore into a veggie through their stomach," say the organisers of the roadshow.

It's a challenge which Heather is also addressing through her new eaterie. The former model has taken over the Big Fish Café in Hove, East Sussex – where she used to eat with husband Paul and their daughter Beatrice - and has revamped the menu along vegan lines.

"They'd have veggie breakfasts and soya milk tea," says the café's former owner Nick Short.

When Nick decided to sell he remembered Heather had once said she'd like to buy the place if it came on the market and contacted the former model to work out a deal.

Heather is renovating the eaterie and plans to take fish, and all animal products off the menu. "I think Hove, any town really, will be well served by a healthy foods cafe like this," says her spokesperson.
