Lessons in fame for Susan Boyle as she discovers its challenges

There were concerns this week that the pressure of sudden fame and being the favourite to win Britain's Got Talent were getting to Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle. The 48-year-old reportedly lost her cool twice in one day during two separate incidents.

Police stationed at the London hotel where Susan is staying with the other contestants of the TV star search apparently intervened on Tuesday afternoon after the church volunteer got into an argument with two strangers in the lobby. The men had deliberately set out to "wind her up" said a Britain's Got Talent spokesperson, who stressed: "The police were not called, they were already present."

Later Susan is reported to have reacted badly after her favourite judge, Piers Morgan, praised another contestant during the live semi-final show. Watching the programme with fellow hotel guests, Susan apparently swore and stuck two fingers up at the TV.

She was apparently responding to Piers - who she has admitted to having a crush on - telling 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi his had been "the best singing performance we have heard in the semi-finals so far".

However a spokesperson for Susan says the story is untrue, and that she left the hotel bar before the schoolboy's performance was even shown. "Susan was in the bar with friends but was getting hassled by a journalist," says the rep. "The four of them left before Shaheen's live performance to watch it in the room instead."

As interest in the show and contestants continues to mount ahead of the May 30 grand final, Shaheen's mum is keeping his feet firmly on the ground. One journalist who arrived to interview the young star at his home was told by mum Karen Thomas that she'd confiscated his computer until he'd finished tidying his room. "He's like any other boy in that respect," Karen said. "He needs to be told to put things away."
