While some supporters were torn when David Beckham took to the field for his first returning game for LA Galaxy on Sunday, there was one very high profile match goer was there to show his support.

Among those watching from the crowd as the hunky footballer joined his team mates in a friendly game against AC Milan – the team David has just completed a five-month loan with – was his good friend Tom Cruise

The Tropic Thunder star was without his own wife Katie Holmes, who is currently filming Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark in Melbourne, Australia, but was joined by Isabella, his 16-year-old daughter with Nicole Kidman.

They took their places alongside Victoria Beckham, Gary Barlow and music mogul Simon Fuller in the box for the game. Victoria's mum and dad Jackie and Tony Adams, and their three grandsons – Brooklyn, ten, six-year-old Romeo, and Cruz, four - completed the group.

Elsewhere in the sell-out crowd watching the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw, were fellow Brits Kate Beckinsale - joined by her American director husband Len Wiseman - and Little Britain's David Walliams.

The game in Los Angeles was not without its dramas. Becks faced shouts and banners held by a section of the home crowd. They were riled by his extended stay in Italy which led to his absence from his US team's first five games of the season.

But the 34-year-old athlete took it all on the chin. "The majority of fans have been great," he insisted after the game. "It was only one or two, you know, it was to be expected."
