There was only person's opinion that really mattered to Whitney Houston when it came to her return to the music scene this year with her comeback album I Look To You - that of her daughter Bobbi Kristina.
In a recent interview, the singer revealed she stepped out of the limelight to concentrate on being a full-time parent. She wanted, she said, to make sure a strong mother-daughter bond was in place before heading back into the industry. And judging by the fun the pair had on stage together this week when the 16-year-old joined her mum for a duet, that certainly is the case.
Bobbi Kristina's cameo on Tuesday took place during Whitney's rendition of her 1998 hit My Love Is Your Love. It was just one of four tracks she performed at the free show in Central Park, which was shown on Good Morning America. Whitney's daughter with ex-husband Bobby Brown was not the only family member supporting her on the day. The six-time Grammy winner delivered an emotional version of the record's title track directly to her mother, soul singer Cissy Houston. She was also watching the set - which took place the day after I Look To You was released in the US - from the side of the stage.
The 46-year-old's performance, which also featured renditions of the opening track Million Dollar Bill, her Alicia Keys-co-written single, and a finale of I'm Every Woman, came hot on the heels of an interview with chat show queen Oprah Winfrey - dubbed the most anticipated music interview of the decade.
And all that talking apparently tired out the New Jersey songstress. She apologised to the nonetheless delighted crowd for the quality of her voice, saying she had been affected by recording the interview on Monday. "When I am talking, I should be singing," she told the audience.
