While he was shooting the Mission Impossible films Tom Cruise first developed a taste for stunt work. From driving bikes and fast cars to scaling a 1,500 foot cliff himself rather than using a double, the Hollywood heavyweight has proven time and time again he is an action hero both on and off screen. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that the 47-year-old actor has thrown himself into the fast pace of his latest film, Knight and Day, starring Cameron Diaz. From speeding down a walkway on a motorbike to sprinting down a pier on foot, Tom has been pictured in a number of energetic sequences for the action comedy, which hits screens in July. And this week, the Valkyrie star upped the ante.

Filming scenes with his beautiful co-star, the New Yorker was seen running off a narrow jetty and taking a flying leap forward to catch hold of what looked to be part of a boat's sail – a move he seemed to accomplish with great ease.Indeed the film's leading lady Cameron – who worked with Tom in 2001's Vanilla Sky - has been so impressed with his daredevil approach to his work she thinks he could have had a second career in the industry. "Tom is a professional stuntman," commented the 37-year-old actress. "If he wasn't Tom Cruise the movie star, he would be the best stuntman in the business. He's phenomenal. What he does is, like, crazy."

Knight and Day follows a fugitive couple forced to speed across the globe in an attempt to avoid capture by a determined federal agent, played by Peter Saarsgard. Tom's next venture will be starring alongside comedian Ben Stiller in The Hardy Men – an updated version of The Hardy Boys, a series of books about two teen brothers who become amateur detectives.
