When Peter Andre was initially booked to appear on Sky News this week, it was primarily to talk about his new Valentine's Day album, Unconditional Love Songs.

But, with the news that his ex-wife Katie Price had married in a quick Las Vegas ceremony overnight, the singer found himself facing more questions about his personal life than his professional one – forcing him to cut short the live interview as he fought back tears. In light of the glamour model's surprise nuptials, the 36-year-old – whose four-year marriage to Katie ended last year – was questioned by presenter Kay Burley about the role Alex Reid would play in his children's' lives.

He was earlier shown archive footage of Dwight Yorke – the father of Katie's seven-year-old boy Harvey – criticising Pete for wanting to adopt his son. "I asked to adopt him because I love him," the Australian musician said. "I didn't ask to adopt him to be disrespectful. It angers me when people turn around and I get a comment like that."

He was then asked how he would feel if cage fighter Alex wanted in turn to adopt his two children with Katie, four-year-old Junior and Princess, two. "No one is going to take my kids away from me – nobody," Peter said, clearly overcome with emotion. "Nobody is going to take my kids away from me and I will fight to the death for that." "I didn't expect that, I'm sorry…I will die for those children."

Despite his host's attempts to talk about his upcoming tour, the star decided to call a halt to the interview as he fought back tears. "I'd rather just stop this if that's alright," he said.

Newsreader Kay apologised for upsetting Pete and later took to her blog to talk about the incident." Peter Andre broke down on my show and when I went to check during an ad break that he was OK, he sobbed on my shoulder in the Green Room," she wrote. "He'd discovered not 12 hours earlier that the mother of his two children had married without even bothering to tell him and was devastated at the very thought that she might want to take the youngsters away from him. "I was mortified at having upset such an obviously doting family man and was keen to offer sincere apologies but he was his usual charming self."…Eventually, calm was restored and Peter left the building wiser about news interviews and me very much with 'Team Pete."
