It's one of the more laidback award shows of the year, and on Wednesday night the stars proved that by going for playful looks as they attended the National Movie Awards at London's Royal Festival Hall. Gwyneth Paltrow was one of the night's style winners as she stepped out in a fluorescent frock, following the new summer trend that was also out in full force at the Sex and the City 2 premiere earlier this week.
The Iron Man 2 actress was stunning in a hot pink Prada Sixties-style mini-dress, which she paired with Christian Louboutin peep toes in the same shade. Also showing off a flirty style was Harry Potter actress Emma Watson, who was on-hand with her co-stars to receive the Family and Special Recognition awards. The pretty film star worked a youthful look in a black and white Karl Lagerfeld playsuit and black stilettos.
While most of the glamorous ladies, including Diane Kruger and Kylie Minogue, made statements in leggy summertime styles, Katie Holmes opted for a simple maxi dress. The theatre and film actress chose a silk, striped number from her own fashion line, Holmes & Yang, as she accompanied her husband Tom Cruise, the man of the night.
Tom, who was handsome in a classic black suit, took home the Screen Icon Award, presented to him by Gwyneth. The humble actor dedicated his speech to his fans, expressing thanks "for allowing me to entertain you, for making my dreams a reality".
As the awards are voted by the public, it comes as no surprise that Twilight was the other big winner of the evening. The franchise picked up the trophies for Fantasy Film and Most Anticipated Movie of the Summer, which were accepted by actor Peter Facinelli. Heart-throb Robert Pattinson, who was not in attendance, also won Performance of the Year.
