Picture the scene. Actress Salma Hayek sitting on a beautiful terrace with stunning views over a clear blue lake, surrounded by lush green trees, chatting about her new film to a TV interviewer.A more relaxing setting for promoting a movie would be hard to imagine.Until, that is, an unwelcome guest slithered into view.

A snake emerging from nearby trees on to the set of US TV show Extra sent the Mexican star and her fellow Grown Ups cast members Maya Rudolph and Maria Bello into a state of panic. Inciting cries of terror, the intruder caused a fear-stricken Salma to jump on to her chair and in towering heels try to clamber on top of Maya and flee the set.

Closely following her was a similarly scared Maria, who nevertheless found the composure to calm the obviously terrified Salma, who was eventually carried safely off by security. "Thank you so much," she told the men as they escorted her away.

Once the rather large, but harmless, serpent had moved along, a calmer Maria described it, "as like a python. It was this thick… It was like a cobra".The only question that remains is why Salma was so scared of the surprise guest, considering the amount of time she spent with a snake draped around her in 1996 movie From Dusk Till Dawn. Maybe she is an even better actress than we all realised.
