Piers Morgan and his bride share their happiness with celebrity friends

July 12, 2010

Everyone's seen Piers Morgan forcefully making his opinions known over the objections of his fellow judges on Britain's Got Talent. And the 45-year-old media personality - who once edited the Mirror - loves to send himself up as a self-satisfied former hack with an undeservedly healthy pay packet. But he is clearly just one big softie at heart.

Seeing him beaming as he and his bride 33-year-old Celia Walden, a newspaper columnist, celebrated their start to married life, anyone could tell that he's crazy about her. The happy pair followed an intimate country ceremony on June 24 with a bigger bash for all their showbiz friends. Friday's party in the picturesque village of Newick, East Sussex, the home of Piers' parents, featured a Hog roast inside a massive Teepee.

Although Simon Cowell wasn't on hand – "I couldn’t trust him to turn up on time. He’s terrible at timekeeping," joked Piers – there were plenty of other pals to toast their happiness at the party. Among them were presenters Ant and Dec and Amanda Holden, his fellow judge on the hit ITV1 show. The glamorous blonde, wearing a beautiful patterned green and turquoise floor-length gown by Ralph and Russo, arrived with a bottle of her favourite vintage - as requested by the wine-loving groom, who asked pals not to bring with them any other presents.

Invitees included also Gordon Brown's wife Sarah and TV presenters Kirsty Young and Christine Bleakley. Also on hand to wish the newlyweds well was celebrity chef Raymond Blanc and business supremo Alan Sugar, who hosts The Apprentice. Before the dancing, Piers had the partygoers in stitches with his speech. He quipped: "I can see what you’re all thinking," before referring to his beautiful new wife whom he has compared to Brigitte Bardot, "Hasn’t she done well?".
