The man behind the news - mysterious 'news raider' who keeps popping up on bulletins

July 28, 2010

Wherever a news camera crew goes he seems to follow. A mysterious man has been causing a stir by popping up in the background in dozens of TV news bulletins over the past few weeks. He's been seen loitering in reports on the BBC, ITV, Sky and Channel 4. He was even seen in the background of The Antiques Roadshow.

There's been much speculation as to the man's identity and his motives for gate crashing the news bulletins. He's was nicknamed 'the news raider' and 'the fat guy who wants to be on TV' and was eventually identified as a community worker from South London called Paul Yarrow.

The 38-year-old has said he was making a statement against the culture of only letting good looking people on TV. "Being overweight I get ignored. I could have a valid point about something but the microphone is always passed to the person alongside me," he told The Evening Standard.

"The point I am making is that the more you push me aside, the more I'm going to be determined to make my presence known." Paul said that he will probably not continue with his campaign now he has attracted so much attention. "It has been terribly surreal. People are stopping me in the street wanting their photos taken with me and people have seemed to have taken me to their hearts."
