Arlene Phillips may have been dropped from the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel, but her opinions are still as forthright as ever.
In an exclusive article for HELLO! magazine, the acclaimed choreographer gives her verdict on this year’s celebrity hopefuls.
She doesn’t have much praise for former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe. “She looks as though she’s eaten too many bagels,” she said.
Ann was inspired to take part after watching John Sargeant in series six. “I don’t know whether she’ll be as interesting as John Sargeant or last as long,” Arlene told HELLO! . “She could be somebody who people get bored with very quickly, a joke too far.”
Arlene, whose no-nonsense comments are a reminder of why she was so popular on the dance show, is unimpressed with rugby player Gavin Henson and former Coronation Street actress Tina O’Brien also comes in for some criticism. But older contestants Felicity Kendal and Pamela Stephenson fared better - Arlene tips them to be surprise hits. She predicts that Pamela will be “the entertainer of the bunch." "I know she can move, because years ago I worked with her on a dance number for Not the Nine O’Clock News," she said. "She’s got timing and rhythm. I think she’ll be a knockout."
She also said that Felicity Kendal "looks like she’s got dancer’s legs." See the full exclusive article in HELLO! MAGAZINE, OUT NOW
