She is the latex-wearing pop princess behind I Kissed A Girl. He is one of Britain's most outspoken comedians. Both have a penchant for grand and flamboyant gestures. But Russell Brand had a surprising admission to make this week about his wedding to Katy Perry – they want to "keep it very normal".

The 35-year-old told presenters of US TV show The View: "We just love each other and we want to get married in front of our friends and family and keep it very normal. "It ain't about selling the pictures, it ain't about doing no pre-nup, it's just a normal thing".This might come as a surprise to fans who are familiar with their quirky personalities, and love of all things theatrical. Indeed, their whirlwind courtship and Russell's impossibly romantic proposal in India – four months after they began dating – are anything but normal. Though they're keeping the exact details of the ceremony under wraps, the couple are widely reported to be marrying in India at the end of the month. Insiders close to them say they are planning a lavish six-day bash in India – including a traditional Indian ceremony in Rajasthan. Guests - who will include Katy's best friend Rihanna and probably Russell's pals David Walliams, Noel Gallagher, Jonathan Ross and David Baddiel - will apparently be flown out on private jets and sleep in deluxe tents. As for the entertainment, Russell's favourite artist Morrissey has reportedly been invited to sing at the nuptials. Slightly different from your average wedding disco.

It was Rihanna who originally let slip the location for the wedding. She told a radio DJ she had her work cut out in organising a suitably stylish hen do after being told about the India plans. "How do I match that?" she asked. But the Rude Boy singer rose to the occasion, pulling out all the stops for a Las Vegas extravaganza. Katy and 25 of her friends were whisked away to see the Cirque Du Soleil's resident show (pictured below) in a stretched Hummer, before going on to a strip club. Meanwhile, on his stag party, Russell also ended up a similar establishment. But while Katy joked after her night out she needed to "sign up for a liver transplant", her future husband's soiree was somewhat different. It was described as "the most sober stag party in the history of nightclubs" by club owner Peter Stringfellow, whose venue they ended up at. Russell and his friends had started off by watching the comedian's beloved football club West Ham play and visiting a pub before moving on to the club. The groom, who has been sober for many years after battles with drink and drug addiction, was home in bed by 2am.

When it comes to prep for the big day, Russell says he knows how to keep his bride-to-be happy. "The bride is in charge. So, you initially think, 'Oh, I'll just say yes to everything that they ask'," he explains. "But that's not enough. You have to be interested, then say yes." But 25-year-old Katy tells a slightly different story. The brunette beauty says that her fiancé isn't faking interest – he really is something of a "bridezilla"."He's like a freak, man. You should see - he's always, like, buying bride magazines," she said earlier this year. "Every time we go out for breakfast he's like, 'Can we just stop and get a bride magazine?' "He wants everything monogrammed," she added. Whether their wedding is "very normal", remains to be seen. But one thing's for sure – it's certain to be a day filled with love, and a mountain-sized helping of laughter.
