Girl group Belle Amie have left the X Factor after a dramatic showdown with controversial contestant Katie Waissel. Both acts had to sing for survival on Sunday after failing to secure the viewers' votes, and when the judges failed to make a unanimous decision, the vote went to deadlock.

Belle Amie – in the bottom two for the third time – performed Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway in the sing-off, while Katie, 24, sang Etta James' Trust In Me.Simon Cowell – Belle Amie's mentor – voted to save the quartet, while Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue chose to save Katie.

Left with the deciding vote, Louis Walsh opted to send Katie home – and based on the public's vote, Belle Amie became the sixth act to leave the competition. "We are not giving up, this is not the end of Belle Amie," the girls said. "We have only been together a couple of months but it has been amazing. "Simon, who only has one act left, added: "They have been a pleasure to work with. I don’t think it’s the end for this group; they're survivors."

Sunday's show also featured performances from three top artists – Bon Jovi, Rihanna (pictured) and Jamiroquai's Jay Kay.Next week will see X Factor alumni Shane Ward and Dannii's big sister Kylie take to the stage.
