Delighted Linford Christie dashes out of the 'I'm A Celebrity...' jungle

December 1, 2010

After 18 long days living Down Under, Linford Christie has become the latest contestant to leave I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here - and he couldn't be happier about it. Upon hearing that the public had voted to send him home, the Olympic champion sprung to his feet and hugged and kissed hosts Ant and Dec. "I'm going home," he cheered after learning that comedian Dom Joly would be the one staying put.

Speaking in his post-eviction interview after leaving camp for the last time, Linford told the presenters: "I've had enough. I had enough days ago. "Some of it was what I expected, but some of it wasn’t what I thought. And last night was the worst – I was completely soaked because it rained so badly, it wasn’t good. "The 50-year-old athlete - who was reunited with his daughter Briannah after being voted off - also admitted he felt under pressure to be strong on behalf of the group. "They saw me as a leader, a motivator, the big strong guy. I had to try to be brave," he said. "There were things that scared me but I had to just try and hide it and get on."

Echoing the sentiments of other celebs who have already left the camp, Linford revealed he hoped former X Factor contestant Stacey Solomon would win the show. "Stacey's the loveliest person. When I was down, I could always go to Stacey and she would cheer me up. "She can't see the bad in anyone and she deserves to win. "With Lembit Opik, Sheryl Gasgoine and Gillian McKeith already voted out of the jungle, only Shaun Ryder, Aggro Santos, Jenny Éclair, Kayla Collins, Dom and Stacey remain.
