End of the road for Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds after two years of marriage

December 15, 2010

It's not been a good week for celebrity relationships.Hot on the heels of Michael C Hall and Zac Efron's break-ups comes the news Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have called it quits.

In a joint statement released on Tuesday, the couple said: "After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage.""We entered our relationship with love and kindness, and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it's certainly appreciated."

According to one source, it was Scarlett who initiated the split and she is said to have started apartment-hunting in New York. It is thought that the pressure of spending so much time apart is the reason behind the separation.

Scarlett, 26, and Ryan, 34, (pictured in June) got engaged in May 2008 and were married in September in a very private ceremony at a retreat in Vancouver – the Proposalactor's hometown.Only a few friends and family members were in attendance and no wedding photographs were released." It was my mission to have a moment of privacy, to do something for myself," the blonde beauty said of the big day. "I was happy with the result of that."

The Lost in Translation actress and her husband – previously engaged for two years to Alanis Morissette - have remained tight-lipped about their relationship since it began in Spring 2007.But Scarlett opened up a little on her marriage to InStyle magazine in April of this year, revealing that she enjoyed cooking for Ryan as part of their domestic life together." There's a nice comfort in that," she said. "That part of your life is certain, in a way. You've got your home in that other person."
