December 16, 2010

On any other occasion, he would steal the show. But David Beckham was only too happy to let the spotlight shine on some of the military's bravest men and women at the Night of Heroes Awards. The football star – who recently went on a morale-boosting visit to see the troops in Afghanistan – was joined by his eldest son Brooklyn as he stepped out to honour the work of the Armed Forces. And he was very clearly moved and humbled by the courage of all the nominees at the event, which was arranged by The Sun and officially opened by Prime Minister David Cameron.

"It's hard to hear their stories and not be emotional," the dapper 35-year-old admitted. "This is a night to recognise the unbelievable work our Armed Forces do for our country. They sacrifice a huge amount for themselves and their families. To come here and celebrate what they do is ridiculously important." Becks was particularly moved as he presented an award to Denny Wise, who established the Forces' Children's Trust to help children who have lost a parent whilst serving in the military. "It makes me think of my sons," said David. "These children are incredible."
