Their romance started in a blaze of publicity, with images of them cuddling in public. And soon Alex Reid was seen playing the father figure to Katie Price's three children – Harvey from her relationship Dwight Yorke, and Junior and Princess Tiaamii by ex-husband Peter Andre. So as the 11-month of marriage between Katie and the cagefighter apparently breaks down, followers of the larger-than-life model are waiting for an official statement.
On Tuesday, despite reports that the 32-year-old planned to announce their split, no comment was forthcoming. According to reports in the Sun, Katie was busy consulting lawyers about how to hold on to her £40-million fortune in any divorce before going public. "Katie wants to protect everything she has worked for – and that includes her children's inheritance," a friend is quoted as telling the paper.
"She tried very hard on their holiday to make things work, but Alex didn't want to know," said the friend - referring to the couple's break over Christmas in the Indian Ocean. Last week came the strongest indication yet that the relationship is on the rocks. She tweeted: "To answer my fans questions, News of the World did an accurate story Sunday about our marriage in crises (sic)".
Although, followers of Katie's rollercoaster life can't be completely certain that the final bell has rung on the union. Shortly afterwards, Alex wrote in his column in Star magazine that he and his wife had "reconnected" on holiday and he was "hopeful" about overcoming the difficulties in the relationship. "It was like a weight had been lifted when we admitted we were having problems, and since then we've been getting on like a house on fire!"
