'There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation,' jokes healthy Michael

He looked better than he has done in months – and the smile on his face spoke volumes. Michael Douglas is fit and healthy, and happy to be back on the cine circuit. The star appeared in his element this weekend at the Golden Globes, where he was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category. And his sunny mood was evident as he took to the stage to present the Best Film trophy. After huge cheers and applause from the audience for the 66-year-old, he joked: "There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation." Michael last week revealed his tumour has vanished, and he thinks he has beaten throat cancer. And supporting him every step of the way has been his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones - who looked gorgeous at the ceremony in a strapless Monique Lhuillier gown. Michael told how his wife had been overcome with emotion on hearing of his recovery. "She had a good cry when she heard,' the Oscar-winner said.

His reaction was considerably more measured however: "I can't tell you I was jumping up and clicking my heels. "For me, it will probably be two or three months before it will really sink in and feel good." Michael must go for regular checks, but he's optimistic about the future. "The odds are, with the tumour gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat," he says. The Wall Street star lost out to Christian Bale at the award ceremony, but that didn't dampen his spirits.

He and Catherine kept the night going, attending an after party held at the Beverly Hilton. "We meant to go directly from the show for or an early night but there was a party atmosphere in the air so we thought we'd check it out", said Catherine. The couple stayed for an hour before heading home. "We need our bed and he needs his rest," said the Zorro actress as they left.
