Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken about fatherhood for the first time. And his comments may surprise those who regard him as just another pampered millionaire sportsman.
The 25-year-old says that being a dad has made him more responsible and that he's not afraid to lend a hand with the less favourable aspects of parenting. "Of course I change the nappies," he told Spanish sports paper Marca. "It's not the thing I like best in the world, but I do it."
Of his new role as a father, he adds: "Of course something like this affects you. It's a different type of responsibility." "Maybe I feel more comfortable. I'm comfortable when things are going well: my family, the club, my friends, that gives me important support for everything else." The former Manchester United star says he would be delighted if his son followed in his footsteps. "I would love him to like football, for him to be my successor, but we'll see what happens.
"My son will be whatever he wants." Cristiano shocked the world when he announced in July on his facebook page that he had become a single father. The identity of the mother of the little boy – who is cared for by Cristaino's mum Dolores Aviero – remains a secret. It was recently reported that the lady in question is a British student who was given a substantial amount of money to sign a contract giving him sole custody. She apparently regrets her decision and has been phoning the footall star asking to see her son, who was born on July 17 in the US. Ronaldo is currently dating Russian model Irina Shayk (pictured). When the newspaper asked him about the possibility of marriage he said: "One day, you never know. It's early."
