Eggs-ellent night for Lady Gaga at the Grammy Awards

February 14, 2011

Talk about making an entrance. Queen of quirky, Lady Gaga, outdid herself at the Grammy Awards by arriving inside a giant egg.

The flamboyant singer was carried up the red carpet on a sedan chair inside the curious vessel, which was fitted with an oxygen tank and a fan.

It easily rivalled her MTV Awards meat dress for its wackiness. Her assistants did the talking – explaining she was incubating ahead of a preview rendition of her new track Born This Way."She's in an embryonic state and won't be born until the performance," one of the group told E! presenter Ryan Seacrest. He told viewers that the singer had been inside the egg for three hours getting into character with only her Blackberry for company. She 'hatched' out of the egg on stage to give a typically high octane performance wearing a yellow latex outfit and matching hat.

And a closer look at her shoulder showed it had been modified using prosthetics, making it rise into a point. The 24-year-old had a storming night, picking up three awards - including best pop vocal album for The Fame Monster. She changed into two more quirky creations during the course of the night – both black latex-themed outfits. Other winners on the night included Eminem – who was nominated in ten categories but only went home with Best Rap Solo Performance, for Not Afraid.British rockers Muse won Best Rock Album for The Resistance and also performed, marking their Grammy debut. Other highlights included Rihanna's racy red carpet outfit, Russell Brand's show of unity with Katy Perry and Gwyneth Paltrow's fun Forget You duet.
