'Governator' superhero project in doubt as Arnold Schwarzenegger delays film return

May 20, 2011

If the bike workout this week looked like hard work, it can be nothing compared to his personal difficulies.Actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has put his movie comeback on hold as he deals with the fall-out from an affair with his housekeeper and possibly prepares for a costly divorce.

The former California governor has told his talent agency to put on hold all film projects being negotiated on his behalf. "Mr Schwarzenegger is focusing on personal matters and is not willing to commit to any production schedules or time-lines," said a spokesman. "This includes Cry Macho, the Terminator franchise and other projects under consideration. "We will resume discussions when Mr Schwarzenegger decides." Unfortunately, for Arnie fans the film ban affects The Governator - an animated flick where he'd have voiced the character of a devoted family man, who has a double life as a crime-fighting superhero. Revelations that the 63-year-old fathered a child with his housekeeper also set the stage for what could be a big-money divorce case.

Experts suggest his wife Maria Shriver can expect to receive at least $100,000 (£61,630) a month in spousal support. And as two of their four children are under the age of 18, she could be awarded up to 40,000 US dollars (£24,650). But friends of the couple have hinted that the Terminator star is desperate to keep his family together. And Maria, a staunch Roman Catholic, has not proceeded with a divorce - despite hiring a lawyer.

The current separation came about when she confronted their maid Mildred Baena with her suspicions about the child, who bears a strong resemblance to Arnold, reports US website Radar Online. During their talk, Mildred apparently broke down and confessed, prompting 55-year-old Maria to leave the marital home.
